Marine Leisure Equipment
Marine leisure equipment are leisure ships used for the purpose of leisure and spare time in the ocean unlike fishing and merchant ships, which are divided into power-propelled power yachts and wind force-propelled sail yachts.
For the application technologies of marine leisure equipment, it is applied not only various advanced technologies such as components and materials, mechatronics and marine electric communication including shipbuilding technologies but also aesthetic and emotional interior technologies. Accordingly, the government designates marine leisure ships as a technology field of 100 strategic products to focus on technical development so that builds it as a new growth engine industry of Korea.

Marine leisure equipment is a structure/form and operation method similar to water leisure crafts including 15 kinds of equipment with a form determined such as motor boats and power yachts according to Clause 3, Article 2 of the Water Leisure Safety Act and Article 2 of the enforcement ordinance of the same act, which is divided into 16 kinds including what determined by the ordinance of Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

Classified name Motor Boat
○ It aims at high-speed sailing, and is manufactured with composite materials such as FRP for weight lightening.
○ It uses an internal combustion or electric engine, and is divided into inboard, inboard and outboard, outboard boats according to its propulsion.
○ It has an indoor living space according to its size, and super yachts and mega-yachts are high-value luxury products.
Power Yacht

○ The primary power source is wind power, and sails are equipped for this purpose.
○ In the past, wood was principally used, and recently composite materials are also used for weight lightening.
○ There are various types from a small yacht without decks to luxury large sailboats above 60m.
Personal Watercraf

Classified name Personal watercraft
○ The name of Personal Watercraf is derived from its feature operated as a land motorcycle.
○ The main power source is an internal combustion engine, and injects water through its water-jet propeller to to propel.
○ It can be used on both land and sea waters, and can pull water-skis and water-sleighs etc.
Rubber Boat

Classified name Rubber boat
○ A product that injects air to form a ship to sail.
○ It can inject and discharge air, and it is convenient to store and move because of its light weight.
○ It is used in various leisure activities such as sightseeing, fishing and rescue because it is inexpensive.
○ The materials are manufactured by binding fabrics with rubber characteristics such as PVC and hypalon.
Scooter

○ It was developed for conveniently moving under water.
○ A product that was developed to penetrate under water for military purposes but modified for leisure.
○ Because it is impossible to take air for combustion under water, it drives a motor through batteries to propel.
Hover Craft

Classified name Hovercraft
○ It is an amphibian craft that can be operated on both the water and ground by floating its body with air and propelling with wind pumped from its propeller, but there is a limit to ground operation because of its noise and wind generation.
○ In early days, it was used for military, and has come into use for leisure after the mid 1980s.
○ In foreign countries, it became as popular as releasing single-seat self-manufactured kits, but domestic frequency of use is low.
Water Ski

Classified name Water ski
○ Water ski is a product that applies skis running on the snow to the water.
○ Types of water skis are various such as two-feet skis, which run with skis equipped on both feet, one-foot skis, which use only a ski, and wake boards which has a board form similar to snow boards.
○ Because it cannot propel by itself, it is used by pulling with Personal Watercraf, motor boats and rubber boats etc.
Parasail

Classified name Parasail
○ Parasail is a leisure craft that can fly in the sky by the parachute’s lift force generated when being pulled.
○ Because there should be no obstacle nearby to safely use parasail, it can be used on the secluded sea away from the seaside.
○ It is used by pulling with Personal Watercraf, motor boats and rubber boats etc. because it cannot propel by itself.
Rowing Board

Classified name Rowing boat
○ Rowing Board is characterized by its long and narrow hull shape, and propels by pulling on the oars mounted on both sides
○ Rowing Board is an elite sport, which is an official Olympic event, and there are 8-, 4-, 2- and 1-person games.
○ It is a craft putting emphasis on speed, in which light weight is an important factor, and advanced composite materials are used.
Kayak

○ One person usually goes on board, and propels and adjusts its direction by using both oars.
○ It has good stability because a canvas (top cover) is installed.
○ It uses various materials such as traditional wooden ships, plastic, and composite materials.
Canoe

○ It was used for vehicles or hunting on a river or sea by ancient people.
○ About 5 persons can be on board depending its size.
○ An oar is used to propel and to adjust its direction and speed.
Water Boat

○ One person usually goes on board, and propels and adjusts its direction by using both oars.
○ It has good stability because a canvas (top cover) is installed.
○ It uses various materials such as traditional wooden ships, plastic, and composite materials.
Water Sled

○ Its official name is Water Sled, but it is also called banana boat because its form is similar to a banana.
○ Most of products are for about 4 persons, and there is a 2-person peanut boat with a peanut shape as a similar product.
○ It is used by pulling with Personal Watercraf, motor boats and rubber boats etc. because it cannot propel by itself.
Surf Board

○ Surf board is a term used as the meaning identical to surfing board, which is used as a generic term for surfing and wind surfing in Korea.
○ It can be propelled by mounting a sail on a surf board like wind surfing.
○ Surf board is a craft strongly influenced by natural environment because it propels with wave power.
Paddle Boat

Classified name Paddle boat
○ Paddle Boat is a small boat equipped with oars on the hull made with FRP or wood, and mostly for 2~5 persons.
○ It is used mostly for playing at low speed on the calm land and sea water.
○ Recently, it is frequently used the rubber boat formed product which is convenient to move and store.
